Tutti gli appassionati smanettoni di Android conoscono il “batterystats.bin”, quel famoso file che, una volta cancellato con una delle apps presenti nel Market o direttamente dalla recovery, permetterebbe la calibrazione della batteria; in questo modo, oltre ad ottimizarne il funzionamento, si dovrebbe anche allungarne la durata utile. Nulla di più sbagliato perchè secondo l’ingegnere di Google Diane Hackborn l’operazione di wipe non fa nulla di tutto questo. Secondo l’ingegnere, infatti, il “batterystats.bin” serve a mantenere un basso livello i dati e a non perdere, quindi, ciò che le applicazioni in funzione stanno facendo durante il cambio della batteria. In pratica serve semplicemente a mostrare sulla UI la percentuale di utilizzo della batteria stessa e per indicazioni come quelle che indicano per quanto tempo una applicazione X è rimasta bloccata o se, per esempio, il display aveva la luminosità al 60% per dieci minuti. Per finire, sempre secondo Miss. Diane Hackborn, il famoso “wipe battery” non ha nessuna relazione con il livello di carica mostrato e sulla durata della batteria. Quindi, se vogliamo che la nostra batteria garantisca migliori prestazioni, non dovremo fare altro che settare le impostazioni al massimo risparmio oppure… comprare una batteria più capace.
