Prima di scrivere questo articolo ho pensato molto a come funziona il mondo dei brevetti americano. Ci deve essere per forza qualcosa che mi sfugge oppure sono così ignorante da non riuscire a capire il perchè di certe cose che dovrebbero essere, invece, molto semplici. Andiamo con ordine: un nuovo brevetto Apple ci spiega che la casa di Cupertino ha pronta una “innovativa” funzione di riconoscimento facciale da utilizzare per lo sblocco di dispositivi mobile. Si chiama Face and Presence Detection e rappresenta l’evoluzione di sistemi simili utilizzati su computer e programmi di sicurezza. Ora, se non vado errato, proprio un paio di mesi fa Google ha presentato Ice Cream Sandwich ed introdotto il “Face Unlock” quale sistema di riconoscimento e sblocco del Galaxy Nexus. La domanda sorge spontanea: quelli di Google saranno mica così sprovveduti da non aver pensato di brevettare una simile novità? La miglior risposta che trovo è che, forse, dati gli innumerevoli utilizzi di sistemi di riconoscimento e sblocco, non se ne sentisse la necessità. Negli ultimi mesi Apple (ed il sistema brevetti americano) ci ha propinato i brevetti più strani ed assurdi tanto da far pensare che l’unico scopo sia quello di avere milioni di motivi per denunciare a destra e manca. A me sembra che, come nel caso della tendina notifiche di iOS 5.x.x, si sia attinto a piene mani dall’esperienza Android ma, come detto all’inizio, io sono solo un povero infermiere ignorante e non possiedo nessuna cognizione scientifica per simili affermazioni. Un importante sito americano che inizia per En… e finisce per gadget riporta che il brevetto risalirebbe al Giugno 2010; strano Apple lo renda noto proprio ora, non vi pare?

Apple patents “Face and Presence Detection”. What it reminds you?

Before writing this article I thought a lot about how the world of American patents works. It must to be something I’m missing or i’m so ignorant that I could not understand the meaning of certain things that should be very simple. First of all: a new Apple patent explains that the house of Cupertino has prepared an “innovative” face recognition feature to use for unlocking mobile devices. It’s called Face and Presence Detection and represents the evolution of similar systems used on computers and security programs. Now, if I am not wrong, just a couple of months ago, Google introduced Ice Cream Sandwich with “Face Unlock” as a system of recognition and unlock of Galaxy Nexus. The question arises: will be those of Google so naive not to have thought of patenting such innovation? The best answer I find is that, perhaps, given the many uses of systems of recognition and unlock, they don’t feel the need. In recent months Apple (and the U.S. Patent System) has served up the most strange and absurd patents so as to suggest that the only purpose is to have millions of reasons to denounce at right and left. It seems to me that, as in the case of IOS 5.x.x notifications system, has drawn profusely Android experience, but as said at the beginning, I’m just a poor ignorant nurse and i do not have any knowledge for such scientific statements.

An important american site that begins for En and ends for gadget says that patent had been submitted on June 2010; it is not strange Apple reports it only now?
