L’upgrade sarà scaricabile tramite l’Ovi Suite o via OTA (Over The Air) ed i modelli interessati dovrebbero essere i Nokia: N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6 e, si spera, il 500.
Ora non ci resta che attendere la conferma ufficiale da parte di Nokia.

All Nokia smartphones, which already received the Anna update and the ones running it out of the box, will be soon be updated with Symbian Belle,  maybe  October 26th, the day when Nokia World 2011 kicks off, in London. It will be available through the Ovi Suite and as an OTA (Over The Air) update ans the update should be coming for Nokia’s N8, C7, E7 and C6-01, as well for the E6, X7 and hopefully, the Nokia 500. Now, we just have to wait for official confirmation from Nokia.

Il nostro grande amico e moderatore del forum Giovanni, ci segnala una strana novità sulla pagina Facebook inglese di Nokia: è apparso un countdown che promette di svelare “qualcosa di nuovo su Symbian”.

E’ una cosa davvero anomala, visti tutti i mastodontici movimenti con Microsoft, per non parlare poi  dei sistemi Maemo e Meego su cui prima Nokia investe e poi ci ripensa …

Insomma in un momento di estrema crisi del produttore finlandese, in cui Symbian sembrava ormai un sistema operativo praticamente defunto, appare questo countdown che lascia quantomeno perplessi.

Il nostro Giovanni, pensa, e probabilmente con ragione, che verrà ufficialmente presentata una nuova versione di Symbian, che porta il nome in codice “Belle” per renderlo disponibile a fine anno …

Che Symbian stia risorgendo dalle sue ceneri come l’araba fenice ? Non ci resta che aspettare 39 ore ….

PR 1.1 (FIRMWARE 13.0.16) AVAILABLE FOR THE NOKIA C7!

The first Symbian^3 firmware update version 13.0.16 , also known as PR 1.1, is now available for the Nokia C7. The update, which is 6.8 MB, is available OTA (Over The Air) and can be downloaded using the ‘SW update’ application. Update includes a noticeable improvement in overall performance (e.g. smoother scrolling and transitions), a number of bug fixes and much more.
PR 1.1 is a relatively minor firmware updates in terms of new features, but does offer a significant performance boost. Major feature additions are expected to arrive with firmware PR 2, which will arrive in the near future.

In molti casi casi verrà chiesto automaticamente di installare il software aggiornato. Sarà anche possibile avviare manualmente la procedura, aprendo l’applicazione ‘aggiornamento software’, che si trova in Applicazioni -> cartella Strumenti. Il telefono controllerà gli aggiornamenti disponibili e, se ve ne saranno, chiederà di installarli.
PR 1.1 dovrebbe essere disponibile a breve anche per il Nokia N8 ed il  C6-01.

In many cases, the phone will prompt you to install the updated software automatically. However, you can also manually start the process by opening the ‘SW update’ application, which is found in the Applications -> Tools folder. The phone will check for available updates and, if available, prompt you to install them.

La società di ricerca Canalys,  ha fatto un’analisi per quanto riguarda le vendite di smartphone nell’ultimo quarto del 2010 e i numeri che sono usciti fuori sono di quelli che devono far riflettere. In questa finestra temporale sono stati venduti 32,9 milioni di smarphone con sistema operativo Android, (circa 7 volte di più rispetto all’anno prima !) contro i 31 milioni di smartphone con sistema Symbian.

ANDROID OVERTAKES SYMBIAN AND BECOMES THE MOST SOLD SYSTEM IN THE WORLD. IT DOES END A OVER TEN YEARS DOMAIN.

Research firm Canalys has announced the results of its smartphone market data for Q4 2010 and the results must be reflect. In this time have been sold 32,9 million of Android smartphone (almost seven times more than 2009) against 31 million of Symbian’s.

Un sorpasso che a lungo andare era previsto, poichè Symbian sta risentendo della crisi che sta vivendo il suo creatore alias Nokia, ma sicuramente forse non ci si aspettava tali numeri in così poco tempo.

Nokia regnava incontrastata da ormai 10 anni come numero 1 nelle vendite di telefoni e smartphone nel mondo, ma Android, per la sua natura Open Source è diventato ormai il sistema di riferimento per molti produttori hardware, colossi come Motorola, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Samsung e LG e giocoforza era solo ormai una questione di tempo.

Le analisi precedenti parlavano di Android, come il sistema numero 2 entro il 2011 e il sorpasso Symbian entro il 2014 …. Ma il cavallo verde di Google, sta ormai galoppando a velocità inimmaginabile …

C’è da dire che lo scorso anno per Nokia ci sono stati  molti cambiamenti ai vertici e il nuovo chief executive Stephen Elop, presenterà il piano di rilancio a Febbraio 2011, e dovrà essere un piano davvero concreto se Symbian vuole ancora mantenere una quota importante di mercato …

A longer expected overtaking, because Symbian is affected of its creator, alias Nokia, crisis but those numbers were unexpected in this short time. Nokia was dominating from 10 years as number one on world smartphone and cellphones sales, but Android or its Open Source nature has become the reference system for a lot of hardware producers like Motorola, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Samsung and LG and it was only matter of time.

Previous analysis talked about Android as number two by 2011 and Symbian ovetaking by 2014. But Android green horse is running so fast…

We have to say that last years Nokia changed a lot of its managers and ne CEO Stephen Elop will present recovery plan at February 2011 and it must be really concrete if Nokia wants to keep its market position…
